49ers don't cut Kaepernick, 2016 salary guaranteed

Santa Clause CLARA, Calif. (AP) — After months of exchange talk and theory, Colin Kaepernick is still on San Francisco's program and due a powerful payday.

Relatively few figured on this result as of late. The 49ers could have discharged him or exchanged him.

Rather, the quarterback's $11.9 million 2016 contract got to be ensured at 1 p.m. nearby time Thursday when San Francisco kept him on the list.

While potential new groups for Kaepernick may request that he rebuild his present arrangement, Kaepernick wouldn't need to acknowledge anything not exactly the $11.9 million. Denver had been viewed as a genuine suitor for an exchange given the retirement of Peyton Manning and reinforcement Brock Osweiler's takeoff to Houston in free office, yet nothing completed.

Kaepernick has been recouping from surgeries on his right thumb, his left knee, and on his non-tossing left shoulder to repair a torn labrum, which landed him on season-finishing harmed hold after he lost his occupation the previous tumble to 2011 first-round pick Blaine Gabbert.

Gabbert assumed control in November for the sidelined Kaepernick, who finished only 59 percent of his goes with six touchdowns, five block attempts and a 78.5 rating before losing his employment.

Kaepernick went 2-6 in eight begins last season before being sidelined, bringing up issues whether the quarterback who guided the 49ers to a runner-up Super Bowl wrap up the 2012 season was still the best choice under focus.

Presently, it would seem that he will get a chance in another, quick paced hostile framework. Gabbert, who tossed for a profession best 354 yards in the season finale win against St. Louis, said when the 49ers' 5-11 season finished with a second in a row year out of the playoffs that he anticipated that would be San Francisco's starter going into 2016.

"That is who I am as a man, `I'm going to be the beginning quarterback.' That's the way I'll approach it this offseason," Gabbert said. "Notwithstanding what happens, that is my attitude, and I'm going to take this group and keep running with it."

New mentor Chip Kelly said two weeks prior he had talked as of late to Kaepernick and was confident the portable quarterback would at present be on San Francisco's list when the offseason program starts this coming Monday. It's vague whether Kaepernick will be in participation on Day 1 - and the offseason project isn't required.

"I'd affection to have him. I'm a major Kap fan," Kelly said March 17 after Stanford's star day. "There's a business side of this amusement. Whatever that it, that is. Yet, in the event that he's here on the fourth, we'll be prepared to go."
